Savannah Animal Hospital, located in Lewes, DE, is seeking a Technician Manager to join our busy 7 doctor general practice.
Summary
The primary role of the Technician Manager is to supervise, train, and direct the veterinary technicians and assistants. They will work closely with hospital leadership and all departments to integrate best practices and routines throughout the hospital with the goal of providing quality patient care and excellent client service. The Technician Manager will perform all veterinary technician duties alongside the staff.
The Technician Manager reports to the Hospital Manager.
Duties:
Perform skilled veterinary technician duties.
Work with veterinary technicians and medical staff in exam rooms, treatment, and other areas of the hospital as needed.
Proactively recognize and resolve issues that impact hospital flow and patient care such as team behavior, conflict, schedules, training, appointments, inventory, emergencies, etc.
Monitor appointment schedule daily to ensure scheduling protocol is followed and to proactively resolve issues or gaps that impact service.
Facilitate the morning team huddle to ensure optimal workflow and empower teams to solve issues as they arise.
Actively support positive team communication between reception, technicians, and doctor staff.
Rotate daily throughout the hospital to oversee and participate in patient appointments, medical treatments, patient care, and ensure processes are followed for operational success.
Ensure daily patient care and related hospital and administrative functions are completed as per established procedures.
Ensure all lab (in-house and Idexx protocols are being followed.
Create polices, protocols and SOPs based on hospital needs.
Develop, plan, and deliver weekly technician staff training and partner with management on hospital wide training needs.
Create and maintain employee work schedules to ensure adequate hospital coverage.
Approve technician time off requests in accordance with policy.
Proactively find coverage to fill staffing gaps, callouts, and other events that will impact patient care.
Utilize real time training, coaching, and feedback to establish accountability, drive performance and ensure successful outcomes.
Supervise the technician staff and document employee relations matters such as unsatisfactory performance, behavior issues, disciplinary actions, and complete performance reviews.
Hold regular one-to-one meetings with team members to give feedback, maintain communications, resolve issues, foster professional growth, and set goals.
Oversee the technician phase training program; follow-up on employee progress and ensure new staff members are given the phase training packet during their first week.
Participate in the selection and interview process of staff.
Acclimate new staff to the hospital by explaining procedures, ensuring access to systems, and that other team members provide a welcome atmosphere.
Complete the first report of injury forms and ensure medical treatment is provided.
Ensure established OSHA, AAHA, and hospital safety regulations are followed.
Demonstrate and reinforce the highest level of patient care and client satisfaction.
Be a role model by supporting the hospital’s mission, vision, and shared values.
Be a positive influence for change and support the hospital’s decision-making process.
Attend management team and staff meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
LVT or equivalent experience.
Three or more years working in a veterinary technician role in a high-volume hospital setting.
Two years of experience directly supervising a team.
Cornerstone experience a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Multi-tasking and ability to adapt to quickly changing situations.
Ability to have difficult conversations while maintaining confidentiality.
Compassionate, sympathetic, and able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
Team player willing to continue learning, collaborate on ideas, and accept continual change.
